CICB Responds to CLEAN Future ACT Goal of 100% Clean Energy by 2035

The House Committee on Energy & Commerce has introduced a bill announcing ambitious goals for the clean energy sector, prompting CICB to reveal the release of their 2021 services for the wind-energy industry.

In response to the introduction of the CLEAN Future ACT, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) has unveiled their new programs for companies providing construction and O&M services for the wind-energy sector.

CICB’s ‘Wind Service Advanced Rigging with Lift Planning’ and the management-level ‘Crane Safety for the Wind-Energy Sector’ have been designed in response to the needs of industry leaders aware of the significant uptick in demand for renewable energy. The CLEAN Future ACT sets out ambitious goals, including 100 percent clean electricity by 2035. This follows on the heels of what American Clean Power call “a banner year”, as Q4 2020 saw a record high in wind installation with more capacity installed than any other year combined, except 2012.

John O’Connor, co-author of CICB’s White Paper on roles and responsibilities in lifting operations on wind farms, noted the importance of developing training for the wind industry. “There is no doubt that crews working above and below the hook are under increased pressure to meet the growing demands of the wind-energy industry. Operating safely under these conditions is as important as ever.

“Developing an authoritative program for the wind-energy sector was a natural consequence of CICB’s 52-year mandate to furnish comprehensive safety training and guidance for crane and rigging operations across industries.”

O’Connor continued, “It is clear that the ambitious goals of the current administration will spark increased hiring of entire crews that will, in turn, need to be properly trained, certified and evaluated. CICB’s fully customizable ‘Wind Service Advanced Rigging with Lift Planning’ program was formulated to meet the specific needs of contractors engaged in the construction and maintenance of wind farms. Similarly, the ‘Crane Safety for the Wind-Energy Sector’ course is management-level instruction for those with supervisor roles.”
