In response to industry demand, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB), has launched a new training program to prepare operators for their national certification exams as an NCCCO service truck crane operator.

Service truck cranes are widely used for propane delivery, mining, heavy equipment assembly, repair, maintenance, service, as well as by local municipalities’ services workers. Although relatively small, these truck-mounted cranes are engaged in lifting operations covered by OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, which requires operators to be qualified or nationally certified, if they are involved with material handling at construction sites. With the regulations shaking up the world of service truck crane operators, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) has developed a training program to prepare them to pass the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) written and practical exams to become certified operators.
Service truck cranes are identified by their telescopic boom, where the base and mast structure are not integral to a stabilizer/outrigger system and lifting is typically accomplished via a winch (electric or hydraulic). These machines tend to have relatively shorter boom lengths and lower lifting capacities as compared to other Telescopic Boom-Fixed Cab machines (e.g., Boom Trucks, Carry Deck cranes). Additionally, operations are usually conducted by the use of radio remote or pendant control with the operator standing on the ground following the load.
“Although the certification deadline has been postponed until 2017, many proactive employers are making the change to certify their service truck crane operators for the safety of their employees and to reduce risk and liability for their companies,” says Billy Cook, Director of Sales & Marketing for CICB. “We has been providing NCCCO preparatory training programs for crane operators, since the inception of NCCCO in 1996 and all our Instructors are CCO Accredited Practical Examiners.” CICB have expanded their training programs and exams to include overhead and articulating cranes, riggers, signal persons, and now in response to demand, the addition of service truck cranes. “Our nine full-time instructors are not only NCCCO Certified as Mobile, Overhead & Articulating Cranes Operators, but are also CCO Certified Riggers, Signalpersons, and Crane Inspectors.”
CICB fully endorse the national certification programs offered by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and will prepare candidates for certification examinations at our training centers in Orlando, FL and Houston, TX along with programs at our client’s locations.
