Education is always a vital component of CONEXPO 2020, helping the attendees not only survive, but thrive in a changing and global industry. Attendees at the 2020 show can take advantage of the preparatory training for the NCCCO Articulating (Knuckle) Boom Crane Certification Exams offered by Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) on March 8-9th, just prior to the start of expo.
CICB’s training will prepare the attendees to take their OSHA-recognized and ANSI-accredited written and practical exams provided by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) during the expo on March 10-13.
With onsite testing and instant results, attendees will be given the opportunity, if successful, to walk away NCCCO-certified. In addition, the attendees will also receive a complimentary 5-day general badge registration to the expo, which has a $249 value.
“The current regulatory requirements, coupled with increased applications of knuckle-boom cranes in the field, has accelerated the growth in Articulating Crane Operator certification,” stated John O’Connor, CICB’s School Director and Houston General Manager.
Under OSHA’s Cranes & Derrick Regulation all articulating crane operators will need to be certified if the crane is used to hold, support, or stabilize material to facilitate a construction activity, or if they are handling pre-fabricated components (such as roof trusses or wall panels) or structural steel. Articulating cranes used purely to deliver materials from truck to ground are exempt at this time.
“For some building supplies companies, certification wasn’t even on their radar,” said NCCCO Director, Marketing and Customer Service, Tara Whittington, “For others, many thought they were exempt until OSHA made it clear that anything other than unloading materials at a jobsite and placing them on the ground would cross the line from general industry into construction and trigger the certification requirement.”
CONEXPO 2020, one of the most awaited events in Las Vegas, is the international trade show for the construction industries. The expo will feature over 2,500 exhibitors and is expected to draw over 130,000 attendees.
